AISHWARYA RAI BECOMING A SOCIAL ACTIVIST

Aishwarya Rai along with Queen Noor of Jordan
will be seen in a new role in Cannes film festival.
She brushes off her glamourous image of the bollywood diva and will be present in a press meet on May 14 at Hotel Martinez to declare the third edition of the International Tribunes Cinema Verite event which will occur in Geneva (Oct 6 to 8) and Paris (Oct 9-10) later this year.
This event is said to be dedicated to films and social actions that promote human rights and the eight Millennium Development Goals adopted by the United Nations.
Aishwarya Rai is the first non-hollywood actress to be a part of this event, which is said to have been including famous actresses like Meg Rian, Ellen Birkin for last few years.

This year's Cinema Verite event will incorporate a particular focus on India with the screening of Ram Gopal Varma's "Sarkar Raj", starring Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya and Abhishek. The drama had Aishwarya in the role of an executive of a power sector multinational who is sent to oversee the setting up of a plant in rural India.

Also to be displayed at the event is "Bullshit", a documentary by Swedish filmmakers Pea Holmquist and Suzanne Khardalian about an Indian environmental activist and nuclear physicist Vandana Shiva and her organisation, Navdanya.
